Michael Ruberu is a singer with a great story, greater heart, and the greatest natural talent you will experience. At the age of 10, Michael began winning regional voice competitions in Texas. He continued to consistently earn lead positions in American and Canadian middle school, high school and university choirs. Later learning guitar, he composed original songs, never desiring to learn pop standards. A casually recorded demo uploaded online to share with family and friends lead to a pivotal experience.

Randomly contacted by a music promotions rep about printing and selling his material, the rep bluntly asked him “Why aren’t you doing anything with your music?!”. Not having a good answer, Michael immediately submitted his song “Lit” to an online competition, and then soon forgot about doing it.

Two weeks later, an urgent email informed him that his song was getting traction. By the end of the month, “Lit” was voted to the top of the applicant pool of over 3000 international acts…about to enter into a ‘sudden-death style’ competition with other high-ranking songs. Reaching out to the engineer that recorded the demo in Sri Lanka, “Lit” was soon receiving regular rotation on a major Colombo radio station…every play garnering votes to the competition’s website.

The result was a humble acoustic demo rising over more than 3030 mastered studio recordings to win second place in a global music competition. By recommendation, the song was then automatically received by EWorld’s 2008 Hollywood Music Awards Committee, from where it was nominated for ‘Best Acoustic Single’ in the Los Angeles Award Show. Yet Michael did not allow this sparkling success to make him a professional musician. To Michael, it was all a ‘fluke’ experience that would never likely happen again.

In his thirties, Michael was a young husband and father; winding through a string of unsatisfactory jobs. Carpenter to Office Manager to Business Owner to Teacher to Cleaner, it seemed like there was nothing left to do. After losing his last job, Michael knew there was only one last ability: singing.

With a simple demo of his singing and songwriting, Michael advertised himself under the alias of “Sindu Athemai”. He hid his true identity not wanting another failure to rob him of his remaining dignity.

Work soon flowed from Spanish, Italian, Maltese, Eustonian and Romanian House Music producers seeking vocals and top lines for their originals. Western House Music producers soon followed after hearing European tracks featuring Sindu Athemai.

In mid 2016, Michael was approached by an American executive producer/songwriter (Jan Pole), who now offered Michael an opportunity to be developed as a solo artist. Together they started recording singles and developing a sound, and after over a year of continued collaboration, Michael now presents to you his first professional international EP release entitled “Crazy”.

Michael’s following highlights include the addition of the Toronto taste-maker producer ‘Turbo Zebra’ (Ben Pelchat) of Kensington Sound, with whom he plans to infiltrate the Japanese marketplace with an unique, electropop single for the highly celebrated ‘Cherry Blossom’ season.

Michael’s original thematic single “WondrGirl” is making advances locally with the support of Philadelphia’s WBCB radio disc jockey “Gaet Martini”, and internationally with the support of Sri Lanka’s YesFM disc jockey “Yazmin Yousuf”.

Eric Lafontaine of MusicDish China is also now acting as a promoter to Michael’s music in China, providing access to an immensely huge, and highly guarded online streaming market. Future plans include touring based upon the EP’s success.
